Robert Young had crates of broad beans at £3.50 and I couldn't resist. I needed two large panniers to bring them home. These are the panniers we'd carry our entire camping kit in. I spent most of Thursday evening podding the things.

the courgette cakes are from Nigel Slater's Kitchen Diaries book, and they are really nice. It seems he thinks they are the main part of the meal but he is probably not a pig like us. Rack of lamb takes 30 mins: 10 high, 10 medium, 10 rest.

Crab, asparagus, ham tart

14 stalks of asparagus. Cut the nice ends as long as the radius of the tart tin, rest of it in chunks. Crab was one of those cooked ones with the meat packed in the shell. I simmered the shell in some milk for 30 mins then strained and reduced it. Then added to 2 beaten large eggs and half a tub of cream. A little ham, a bit less than a slice. It was magnificent.

2lbs chickpeas, 4 aubergines, 1 can coconut

Tomato and cucumber in mint and yoghurt

About 15 tomatoes and 2-3 small cucs

Potatoes and lime pickle

12-15? medium potatoes, pretty well a whole jar of pickle
